We are going to continue with our studies of Oliver Twist and creating Set Designs/Environments to build our BG (Background) scenes, with a little "Twist"; I would like to add the influence of the Steampunk movement as a point of influence for our environment designs.
The following 2 lessons can be found below to get us started: Outline Direction and Drawing Objects in our scene with a Steampunk influence I can say that I am very excited to work with each and everyone of you, we are on the precipice of creating a very original and fitting new interpretation of Charles Dickens' classic Oliver Twist- let's do this!
Additional lessons on drawing Steampunk elements in your scenes, including the suggestion of creating a quasi mood board in a collage format, as well as a review lesson on 2-point perspective. Continued Lessons: Drawing Steampunk Elements Part 02, Part 03 and Part 04
Additional Lessons in greater detail to support the learning and progression of this project.
Lesson1Photoshop Lesson on the use of Quick Selection tool to Mask or block out objects Lesson2 Photoshop Free Transform Tool additional options you can use to modify your images and drawings. Lesson3 on what makes up the Characteristic Elements of a Steampunk Environment.
Steampunk Form Analysis Group Task: Deconstruct (Take Apart) buildings from your references, into small parts, draw simple projections of forms without any detail. Consider incorporating Orthographic Views, Isometric as well as 1 to 2-point perspective projections of your elements. Once analysis and sketches are created, pass the work to the 3D modellers for production, simple blocking, without any great detail, I will review, give feedback for next steps- let's do this
FINAL STEPS: Showcase your 3D Steam Punk influenced 3D models Step01- White Box Look using Arnold Ambient Occlusion Material In terms of texturing, let's start by first having a nice White Box look, prior to you venturing into the realm of adding real-world textures.
I will be adding a wire-frame turntable render set up for everyone to incorporate in due time...
FINAL STAGE: CAREER CONNECTIONS Career opportunities and directions through this project, we can chat and share the possibilities together- next class. Please review the posted links below, we will discuss in greater detail during our online class session. We are working within the High School curriculum framework, observe how people who have possibly studied Game Environment Design at a Post-Secondary Institution and see the kind of work and results created if we only had more time together, this is completely achievable for each and everyone of you, you may decide to get together with a few classmates and raise the bar by implementing additional learning to produce such works. Imagine for a moment, you created decent looking assets, what is stopping you as a team or an individual creator to publish your work on the Unreal Engine Marketplace and make a little bit of money to support your dreams...?
