Filtered Water Bottle Design Project
Task:
Your goal is to design a prototype for a Filtered Water Bottle. Throughout this project, we'll follow our design process to create a fully developed prototype, from initial research to a final 3D prototype, later in the semester we will create a promotional animation as well

Key Considerations:
Explore various forms and materials for your bottle, with guidance and consultation from me. Consider materials such as wood, wood veneer, glass, aluminum, metals, resin, plastics, or any other material that interests you. Focus on selecting environmentally friendly and non-toxic materials, ensuring your choices align with sustainable design practices and safety standards.

Note:I will be uploading all my in-class lessons with screen grabs below, so make sure to review them and work with the resources accordingly.

Stages of Our Work

Research & Analysis
- Collect 8 items of inspiration and explain why each was chosen.
Types of Filters
- Explore various filters currently being sold and promoted on the market. Choose the ones that interest you and note why, including sources.
Elements of Interest
- Analyze parts or features that could inspire your design, such as bottle shapes, lids, buttons, filters, and materials. Sketch your ideas and explain why these elements interest you.
Elements of a Puzzle
- Develop design ideas by combining the parts you’ve sketched. At this stage, focus on broad concepts rather than detailed designs. The goal is to explore different combinations of elements.
Design Goal Statement
- Write a brief statement outlining the goal of your design, the form you want to achieve, the materials you plan to use, and the type of filter to incorporate.
Concept Development (4-2-1)
- FOUR Initial Concepts: Sketch out four different design ideas. These can be orthographic or schematic views with notations.
- TWO Refined Concepts: Choose two designs from your initial concepts. Add more detail and include Isometric Sketches. Get feedback from a peer.
- One Final Design: Choose the best concept from the two above. Add detailed notations and refine it based on peer feedback. Include Orthographic and Isometric Drawings with colour and material suggestions.
Further Development
- Refine your chosen design by adding more details and specifications. Break the design down into separate parts—this is similar to creating an exploded view of the water bottle. Specify materials, functioning parts, and any other critical features.
3D Prototype
- Develop a 3D prototype of your design, incorporating multiple views, that best represents s. Select materials, apply color, and set up proper lighting for rendering. Finally, render your design into a short animation.
Final Package
- Create a PDF document showcasing the entire design process. This will include:
  - Title Page: Featuring sketches, table of contents, and best views that showcase your proposed design.
  - Design Process: All the stages from Research & Analysis to 3D prototype, along with your saved files/ work in each step.
  - 2D & 3D Files: All supporting files that document your journey.

Package Dimensions
14" X 8.5" , you can place all your stages into Google Slides and export it as a PDF document.

3D Modelling Lessons

Instructions:

Watch each lesson for 2-3 minutes at a time. Focus on the important steps and shortcuts.
Take notes on key details that will help you complete the task.
Practice the steps using your notes as a guide.
Take screenshots of your work at each stage and keep your notes to support the model you create.

Over the next six lessons, you’ll learn essential modelling techniques, including how to move objects along the three axes, duplicate objects, inset and extrude faces, clear scale transforms before bevelling, and add loop cuts. You don’t need to watch every minute of each lesson—many steps are repeated—so feel free to skip ahead and focus on the specific skills you need for blocking out your objects and adding subtle bevels toward the end.
