SALT & PEPPER MILL Project Brief: Your design studio has been commissioned by a film production company working on the movie GATTACA. In one of the restaurant scenes, the director wants to feature a modern, futuristic Salt & Pepper Mill that complements the sleek, high-tech aesthetic of the film. Your task is to design and prototype a Salt & Pepper Mill that visually and functionally fits within the world of GATTACA.
Design Challenge: Create a conceptual prototype of a Salt & Pepper Mill that reflects the futuristic, minimalist, and science-driven themes of GATTACA. Your design should be innovative, visually striking, and plausible within a near-future setting.

Stages of Our Work: RESEARCH & ANALYSIS: Analyze the visual style and themes of GATTACA (architecture, fashion, technology). Explore existing Salt & Pepper Mill designs and futuristic kitchenware concepts. Ideation & Sketching: Generate multiple concept sketches. Consider materials, ergonomics, and user interaction-Incorporate sci-fi design elements. Technical Drawings: Produce wire-frame orthographic and isometric views. Prototype Development: Build a 3D digital models, and render multiple views to best present your design. Ensure the prototype demonstrates key design features. Presentation: Prepare a design rationale explaining how your product fits the GATTAC universe. Present your prototype to the class. Material Suggestions: Wood, Wood Veneer, Glass, Aluminum, Types of Metals, Resin, Plastics, and whatever else you would like to source...:) NOTE: I will be uploading all my in-class lessons with screen grabs below for you to review and work with accordingly. The entire package will be exported into one PDF document, including a title page with your best view/s sketches of your proposed design on the cover. All your digital 2D & 3D files will be submitted showcasing The Design Process, proof of work in all the above stages. Package Dimensions: 14" X 8.5" , you can place all your stages into Google Slides and export it as a PDF document, incorporating class naming conventions.

3D Modelling Lessons
Please watch each lesson for a bout 1 to 2 minutes max at a time, takes notes of important steps, shortcuts and any relevant information necessary to achieve each task, then simply practice the steps by looking at your notes, and lastly, take screen grabs of your created product at each stage as well as your notes supporting the model created.
Intro to Blender Modelling a Rook Please watch this very short video on creating a Rook, a simple chess piece that represents a castle. Through this video you will learn to Scale, Inset, Extrude, Select Loops of Faces/ Polygons, resulting in a simple 3D model; the skills learned within this lesson can be applied to so many scenarios-enjoy the learning!
This lesson is about creating a GLOW effect on your chosen material, using Emission and the Compositor; please skip ahead during the interruptions and simply write the few steps- the end result is worth the journey!
